Subject: Re: Chuck's Health - Please send prayers
Hi all,
This is Breanna and Julian writing a message on behalf of our dad.
Over the past 7 days, Chuck has been fighting extremely hard to beat COVID pneumonia. As we received daily updates from the doctors, they consistently reported that while they saw the inflammation worsening, his vitals remained stable and his blood oxygen had even been incrementally improving each day. Although he was stable on Saturday 12/26, the doctor had informed us of the dangerous and rapid effects that COVID pneumonia can have on the body, organs and overall health. They had warned us that sometimes when patients maintain stability, they often seem to get better before they get worse.
Unfortunately, on Sunday 12/27, our dad had quite the rough day. He began to experience the most severe effects that COVID can have on the human body. The ICU team at Kaiser South attempted the 'prone positioning method', a recently common practice where they flip a patients body onto their belly to open up the back of their lungs in hopes to improve their oxygen levels. This indeed helped to improve his oxygen levels, however, the rest of his body was still battling the other harsh effects.
I am terribly sorry to inform you that on Sunday 12/27 at 9:30pm, Chuck Hardy lost his battle with COVID. He passed on with myself, my sister Julian and his wife Darlene by his side. A husband, father, grandfather, Vietnam veteran, cancer survivor and loyal friend - he has been a fighter for 77 years. We are all so terribly heartbroken, but find comfort that he has lived such a long life filled with adventure, joy, family and love.
Luckily, Julian and I are home with my mom to help take care of our priorities as best we can. Keep an eye out for his obituary to be shared in the Sac Bee and River Valley Times. We also plan to hold a celebration of life in the near future.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time
